AbstractThis paper describes an investigation into the operations of a peat bog. The company operating the bog wished to explore ways of increasing the output of peat. A short investigation was carried out involving the development of a qualitative model of the operation of the bog. The model helped an understanding to be gained of the impact on output of a range of socio-technical variables, and a programme for change was proposed. A discussion of the nature and purpose of the approach adopted is included.
