Bacteriuria is common after incontinent and continent urinary diversion as well as sigmoidal-rectal diversion, but it is uncommon after orthotopic bladder reconstruction. As long as no obstruction or reflux occurs, this bacteriuria is seldom of clinical importance. Stone formation is common when foreign unresorbable material is used, but it is easily dealt with provided that the patients are properly followed up.
