AbstractA method for measuring the drainage rates of single liquid films by the movement of interference fringes is described. It is shown that the cross‐section of a fast draining film is wedge‐shaped and so its average thickness equals the thickness at its mid‐height. Various degrees of water hardness produced changes in the drainage rate of a single film that were consistent with the changes produced in the drainage rate of high‐expansi
