All techniques utilized for meloplasty procedures undermine the skin of the face and pull the tissues up and back, placing the incisions in the least obvious locations while obtaining the best support of the tissues. There has been considerable variation in opinion, however, as to the value of the support of deeper tissues, of running or interrupted skin sutures and buried sutures, of division and support of the platysma, and of related procedures to be carried out at the same or subsequent operative stages. These auxillary procedures, including the upper and lower blepharoplasty, submental lipectomy, mentoplasty, inoplasty, forehead or brow lift, and surgical abrasion or peel of areas of wrinkling, can be of definite additional value in improving the patient's appearance.
