The managerial structure provided by the documents of Purpose, Philosophy and Objectives is said to promote efficient and effective managment. Since the delivery of cost-effective nursing care is particularly important in the current climate of cost containment, the use and effectiveness of this structure was investigated. References to desired nursing care from these documents were identified and tracked for evidence of implementation in 27 nursing departments.
