The following paper is intendeo to review those nucleoside analogs currently licensed for the treatment of herpetic diseases. Potentially efficacious congeners also will be considered. The mechanism of action, preclinical and clinical efficacy, and the problems associated with the use of each nucleoside analog will be described.
