A variety of arrhythmias resistant to medical treatment are now being successfully treated by surgical interruption or cryoablation of responsible accessory pathways. Essential to success is precise electrophysiologic mapping to locate origins and conduction routes of abnormal rhythms. Indications and contraindications for the ablative procedures are discussed and patient selection criteria provided.
