Retrograde pancreatography now makes it possible to identify preoperatively the type of lesion to be expected in a patient with recurrent pancreatitis; nonetheless, the surgeon must keep his approach flexible until the specific problems are disclosed intraoperatively. In the case presented, two cysts required decompression by different routes, and drainage for the gland's exocrine output also had to be provided.
