AbstractThis article describes the major characteristics of the 1980 Programme and outlines the extent to which these and other general issues and considerations have affected its preparation, particularly insofar as they are relevant to present and future trends in agricultural census-taking. It concludes with a general consideration of possible future developments in agricultural census beyond 1980 in the light of current trends in food and agricultural statistics.
