摘要:
A Conference on Physical Science Courses, sponsored jointly by the Advisory Council for College Chemistry and the Commission on College Physics, was held in Chicago on 5–7 September 1963. Background information and statistics are presented which support claims that there is a great need for the colleges to train more elementary school teachers and to include more and better physical science courses in that training. A portion of the call to the conference is included which summarizes the need and suggests action to meet it. The main body of the report presents the conclusions of the conference which include the recommendation that several separate efforts be made by groups of scientists to produce new materials suitable for a one-year college course combining chemistry and physics. Some important general features desirable for such a course are outlined. A list of characteristics one might expect the students to develop as they study the course is presented. The Appendix lists the conferees and their institutional affiliations.
