Chiefly based upon researches in the map sheet of Vårvik, in the western part of central Sweden between the lake Vänern and the Norwegian frontier, a stratigraphic and tectonic scheme has been crected, valid for N. Dalsland and SW. Värmland. The geological history of this area is briefly described. An oldest supercrustal formation forms part of the oldest gneiss complex, which originated previous to the Åmål formation. In the parish of Tisselskog sediments of a pre-Cambrian character have been found, though younger than at least the main phases of the orogenesis of the Dal formation. The Bohus granite has proved to be, in relation to the folding of the Dal formation, an essentially post-orogenic (post-Jatulian) granite. In the region investigated there occur four greater pre-Cambrian unconformities, though of somewhat different relative importance, four separate periods of folding, four pegmatite generations, and formation of veined gneisses on at least two, widely separated epochs, the latest one in connection with the orogenesis of the Dal formation.
