AbstractOxidation of 3‐hydroxy‐6‐methyl‐2‐hydroxymethylpyridine with manganese dioxide yielded the corresponding aldehyde, the condensation of which with diethyl bromomalonate furnished hydroxydihydrofuro[3,2‐b]pyridinediearboxylie acid ester.
