In briefStress fracture of the ribs, an uncommon overuse injury, may mimic recalcitrant intercostal or back muscle strain. This report describes a 36-year-old man who sustained multiple rib stress fractures after he took up golf. Fatigue of the serratus anterior muscle appeared to be the mechanism for his injury. Relative rest followed by strengthening exercises helped the patient return to pain-free activity.
