A diagnosis of the genusChoneis given, taking into account some new characters commonly used in other sabellid genera. The description ofC. longiseta, Chonesp., and illustrated re‐descriptions of some common Mediterranean species are also reported. The Mediterranean species belonging to the genusChoneup to now recorded are:C. acustica(Claparède),C. arenicolaLangerhans (new for Mediterranea fauna)C. collarisLangerhans,C. duneriMalmgren,C. filicaudataSouthern,Chonesp., andC. longisetan.sp. Another Mediterranean taxon remain for the moment undescribed, until more good material will be available.
