The therapeutic effects of NSAIDs have been considered merely palliative rather than disease modifying, especially in conditions having an immunologic component. This view may be too limited. Recent research indicates that these agents may alter the immune response directly, acting on immunocompetent cells, and indirectly, through inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis.
