Despite the enormous advances in asthma therapy made over the last decade, there remains a unmet need for new anti-inflammatories, Professor Peter Barnes from the National Heart and Lung Institute, London, UK, told delegates at the World Asthma Meeting [Barcelona, Spain; December 1998]. But while numerous new approaches are under investigation, not all seem likely to make it into the clinic, he warned.
