SummaryAcquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) has been described among homosexuals in the United States and recently in Europ.Two homosexuals from Belgium are reported with the syndrome. The first one was lymphopenic and died with cerebral toxoplasmosis; at autopsy no underlying cause of immunodeficiency was found.The second one had oral candidosis and chronic lymphadenopathy. Lymphocyte dysfunction was shown by a decrease of the helper/suppressor ratio (0.13) and a decrease of the response to mitogens.Electron microscopic studies showed tubuloreticular structures in the ganglion’s lymphocytes.AIDS may be found among Belgian homosexuals who should be considered like elsewhere as a high risk group.
