AbstractWhen aiming for innovative industries, should governments encourage small firms, or is the dynamism mainly in the large corporations? This brief article summarises some evidence showing that small firms often play major roles in developing new technologies for new products, for later takeover by the corporations — assuming that capital and other entry requirements are not prohibitive.
