Professor Robert Hauser wishes to correct the following statements in his paper, “A Structural Model of the Mobility Table,”Social Forces56(March 1978). On page 929, middle paragraph, third sentence, delete the last phrase, “all but one … ordinality in the occupational categories” and substitute: “all but two of which—the simple independence model and that of quasi-perfect mobility—assumed ordinality in the occupational categories.” On page 932, line 6 from the bottom, delete “cardinal numbers” and insert “merely labels.”Professor Hauser further states: Leo A. Goodman has pointed out to me that pages 929 and 930 have been misread by some readers to imply that the model of equations 5 and 8 is not a special case of the general model proposed in Goodman's 1972 Berkeley Symposium paper (Goodman, 649–50; 663–67). The model proposed in my paper is a special case of the general model in Goodman's paper, and no suggestion to the contrary was intended by me. I did intend to point out the differences between Goodman's applications of the general model to the British and Danish tables and my own application of the general model to the British table. To preclude misunderstanding, the text should be corrected as follows: On page 929, middle paragraph, the last sentence should read, “Applying the general model of Goodman (Sec. 3), we take a slightly different approach in developing models of the mobility table. On page 930, middle paragraph, the second sentence should read, “While our model is a special case of Goodman's (Sec. 3) general multiplicative model, unlike several of the models which Goodman (Table V) applied to the British (and Danish) mobility tables, our model does not assume ordinal measurement of occupations.”
