AbstractThe Statutes of the FIG contain a comprehensive definition of what surveyors do; the broad scope of surveying follows from the names and subject areas of the FIG Commissions. The present paper will be mainly devoted to land surveying in a broad sense, and leave out of consideration the types of surveying in which land surveying plays a very modest part, or none at all.
