This paper criticizes the ideal of ‘law’ and ‘theory’ in psychology put forward by Taylor. It is suggested that his first two requirements for ‘genuine’ scientific laws are so stringent as to be unrealistic, and that the second two, though sound in principle, are too vague for it to be clear what particular psychological laws they are intended to exclude.
