AbstractIt is essential that various kinds of diversity be preserved if the transition from rapid growth to a sustainable society is to be successful in the long run. These include species diversity in natural commodities; genetic diversity in natural populations, crops, domestic animals andHomo sapiens; cultural diversity; and technological diversity.
