This letter presents regression equations for determining sound velocity in marine sediments of the Brazil Basin (NW South Atlantic). These equations are a revision of an earlier work by Orsi and Dunn [J. Acoust. Soc. Am.88, 1536–1542 (1990)], whereinsituvelocities were used to examine selected empirical relationships. In this letter, sediment sound velocities have been corrected to standard laboratory conditions to recompute the equations, as well as several other statistical characteristics. Additional new relationships have been derived that permit calculation of velocity ratio. The relationships between properties and their statistical significance remain unchanged, and the reader is referred to the original study for detailed discussion.
