摘要:
AbstractHammett's substitution constant σ for the methylsulphonyl group has been determined, giving σ‐meta‐CH3SO2= 0.615(0.6522) and two values for σ‐para‐CH3SO2viz. + 1.15 for the substituted phenol and aniline and + 0.73 for the benzoic acid. This indicates that the methylsulphonyl group has a negative mesomeric effect and that its sulphur atom can extend the octet of electrons to a decet
