Was Christopher Columbus really the first European to set foot on what was later to be called Latin American soil? The Vikings had already arrived in North America; mightn't they have had the technology to enable them to sail on to more southerly climes? What is for certain is that there is at least one present‐day case of Scandinavian immigration to South America (and a museum case at that): that of Olaf Holm, which is described below by the President of the Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Organization of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
