摘要:

This study examined the relationship between knowledge of burn prevention and emergency treatment and risk-taking attitudes. The sample consisted of 12 female and 4 male adolescents aged 11–15 years. This descriptive study used a questionnaire examining knowledge of bum prevention, burn prevention practices in the home, and risk-taking attitudes. The overall mean score and standard deviation for the knowledge score, as well as the scores for the specific burn concepts, were analyzed. The practices in the home scores were examined in relation to the knowledge scores. Specific concepts were evaluated in regards to conforming to safe burn prevention practices in the home. An unsuccessful attempt was made to obtain information in regards to risk-taking attitudes that might result in a burn injury. The data show that this population does not have sufficient knowledge about burn prevention. The practices in the home score and the sources of burn prevention information tend to support Project burn Prevention's projection that members of the community should be exposed to burn prevention information by the media, community programs, and the classroom. There was noted to be a correlation between the knowledge of burn prevention score and the practices in the home score. If this study were to be repeated, the risk-taking attitudes section would be redesigned.
