AbstractPromotion of indigenous innovations for strengthening rural technological capability, and to augment rural development, requires government intervention through a set of policy instruments. Developing countries need to introduce traditional market intervention policies. They also need explicit non-conventional measures (such as R&D incentives) to provide formal support to indigenous technologies.Institutional mechanisms are required to integrate technological considerations into the planning process or further development. Appropriate policy imperatives for promoting innovations can play a catalytic role in building indigenous technological capability to augment sustained rural development.
