The majority of bums admitted to the acute unit are thermal in nature. If the cause of the bum is flame, hot water, or contact with a heat source, the extent of the injury is most times visible and measurable. Yet when an electrical bum patient is admitted to the unit the true extent of the injury may be invisible. This paper will present an overview of the mechanism of the electrical injury, and the nursing considerations in patient care.
