This report pertains to a case of ceruminoma of the middle ear, in which the treatment and microscopical picture of the tumour are accounted for. To judge from the relevant literature, there seems to be some uncertainty as to the nature of ceruminomata. In some instances this uncertainty is the result of inadequate histopathological examination, but also of the tendency of the tumour to relapse and even metastasize, which contrasts with the seemingly benign histological picture. The number of reported cases of ceruminoma is not great. Thus, in order to clarify the pathogenesis of ceruminal tumours, additional reports based on thorough clinicopathological examinations, would seem to serve a useful purpose.
