摘要:

LetRbe a commutative noetherian ring and letR[X,Y]be a polynomial algebra in two variables overR. LetWbe an element ofR[X,Y]. In this paper we show thatR[X,Y]is a stably polynomial algebra overR[W]if and only ifWis a residual variable inR[X,Y]. Moreover, in this case, if eitherRcontains the field of rationals or ifRredis seminormal, thenWis a variable inR[X,Y].
