A correlation between the behavior of the interscala cochlear‐microphonic phase and the absolute phase shift between microphonic and sound at the eardrum is presented. It is shown that absolute phase can be interpreted with confidence over a limited frequency region for a given electrode location. Within this region the travel time in the cochlea, as manifested by microphonic measurements, is frequency independent.
