&NA;Evisceration is a complication familiar to all abdominal surgeons. This serious complication necessitates immediate return to the operating room for closure of the abdominal wound. Not infrequently, patients may face a significant delay before they can be taken to the operating room. The exposed abdominal contents may be protected by covering them with sponges soaked with povidone‐iodine solution and a large plastic drape that sticks firmly to the skin.
