SUMMARYWalter Filmer returned to Australia in 1891, bringing with him various pieces of electrical apparatus including a Crookes tube and a 10‐inch coil. On receipt of the news of Roentgen's discovery, Filmer reassembled his apparatus and produced X‐ray pictures. The first medical examination with X rays was at the Newcastle Hospital. The evidence indicates this was almost certainly in February, 1896. It would appear that Walter Filmer was the first Australian worker to produce X‐ray pic
