摘要:

Extensive measurements have been carried out on glucose and lactose molecules comprising, infrared and electronic absorption spectra both before and after exposure to an absorbed energetic γ-ray dose (5.0 × 107rd). These materials were chosen as representatives of mono- and di-saccharides. They have intramolecular hydrogen bonding of variant origin. Results obtained were in conformity, explained, assigned and discussed in details in relation with the nature and origin of hydrogen bonding in each case. Finally, a correlation between γ-radiation damage and relative strength of hydrogen bonding was put forward and established for the first time. Finally, a suggested interaction mechanism of γ-absorbed dose with the carbohydrate molecules investigated was thoroughly established.
