The paper describes anexactly reproduciblemethod of applying metallic coatings to the surfaces of solid specimens and of imbedding thermocouples precisely at any given depth in the coatings. The method makes possible the completeeliminationof the variable discontinuity of temperature which is always present, to a greater or less degree, in measurements of thermal conductivity, between the specimen and the metallic surfaces in contact with it.A new technicfor the stripping of fine silk‐covered wires is described.
