The intent of this paper is to illustrate how a major teaching hospital in South Australia developed and implemented a unique programme for the preparation of nurse practitioners with people who are aged, or disabled, or both. The content will embrace:i) rationaleii) submission formatiii) curriculum designiv) course implementationv) evaluation.Hampstead Centre, (annexe of Royal Adelaide Hospital) Adelaide, South Australia is a two hundred and twenty bed complex. It caters for people requiring nursing home accommodation, people participating in rehabilitation programmes following cerebro‐vascular accident, spinal injuries, head injuries, orthopaedic trauma including joint replacement and amputation and also there are a few respite beds.
