A methodology is developed whereby theoretically plausible and statistically desirable modifications can be made within a partial adjustment‐adaptive expectation framework commonly used in agricultural supply response models. In developing an alternative approach the methods of statistical time‐series analysis are adopted rather than those of classical econometrics The data are allowed to suggest realistic lag structures rather than imposing some unalterable structure on the data.
