SummaryIn an effort to prepare a programme for ordinator assisted diagnosis in thyrotoxicosis, subjective symptoms and clinical signs were registered in 160 Belgian patients with thyrotoxicosis due to Graves’disease (n= 130) or toxic adenoma (n= 30) as well as in 36 selected“non-hyperthyroid”cases.The computer handling of the large amount of data appeared feasible and statistical analysis allowed determination of the diagnostic value of the items under study. Considering subjective symptoms, only little discrimination is possible between the thyrotoxic and non-thyrotoxic groups; however, clinical signs differed clearly between the two groups. Careful clinical examination thus proved to be of greater importance in directing the clinician to the correct diagnosis.
