No.175. THE INSTITUTE OF CHEMISTRY OF GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND. Egtraorbinarp General meeting. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that an EXTRAORDINARY GENERALh/IEETING Of the Institute of Chemistry of Great Britain and Ireland, will be held at 30, Bloomsbury Square, London, W.C., on Wednesday, the Seventh day of June, 1893, at 4 p.m., to confirm the Resolutions, varying the Bye-Laws of the Institute, which were passed at the Extraordinary General Meeting, held at the above address, on Tuesday, the Sixteenth day of May, 1893. RESOLUTIONS. I, That in Bye-law 4, after the words "Ordinary Meetings " the followings words be inserted-" and shall be held (( for the transaction of the ordinary annual business 2 (‘of the Institute, that is to say, for the election of the ‘‘ Council, Censors, and Auditors, for the remunera-‘‘ tion (if any) of such Auditors, and for receiving and (‘adopting the Annual Accounts, with the Auditors’ (‘Report, and a Report from the Council.” 2.That in Bye-law 8 the word “ Council” be expunged, and the word ‘‘ Registrar ” be substituted therefor. 3. That Bye-law 10 be expunged. 4. That in Bye-law 11 the words “if only twelve” be inserted after the word “ whom.” 5. That in Bye-law 12 after the word &‘number ” the words ‘(and whether Members of Council or not ” be inserted. 6. That in Bye-law 14 the words ‘‘the Members of Council “present or in their absence or if all such Members “ present decline to act then,” be inserted before the words ‘‘ the Members present.” 7.That in Bye-law 23 : (I) The word (‘following ” be expunged. (2) After the word ‘(form” the words “or to the (‘effect following ” be inserted. 8. That in Bye-law 27 : (I) The words ‘‘ or ordinary Member of the Council ” be expunged. (2) After the words Charter ” the following words be inserted: “and in the case of any other “ vacancy arising from the same causes in the “Council the same shall be filled up by the ‘‘ Council at a Meeting of the Council summoned “ with notice of that object.” (3) The word (( Them ” be expunged, and the words ‘‘ The Council under this Clause ” be substituted therefor. 9. That at the end of Bye-law zg the following words be added :--“(4) Be absent from five successive ordinary “ meetings of the Council without their consent.” 10.That in Bye-law 31 : (I) That the words from ‘‘the first President ” down ’ to and inclusive of the words “subsequent election ” be expunged and the following words substituted therefor :-“ Any President who (‘shall have held the office of President and ‘‘ any Vice-president who shall have held the “office of Vice-president for three years suc- ‘‘cessively shall become ineligible for re-election “ to such office until the Annual General Meeting ‘‘held next after his retirement.” (2) After the words “provided always that any‘‘ retiring ” the words “or otherwise ineligible ‘‘ Treasurer or ” be inserted. (3) At the end of the clause the following words be 4 added :-'' And any retiring President, Vice-'' President, Treasurer, or ordinary Member of '' Council shall be eligible for election as ('Treasurer." II.That Bye-law 32 be expunged. 12. That in Bye-law 33 the words from the words ''provided " always" where the same first occur down to and inclusive of the words " respectively. And" as also the words '' in every subsequent year " following the words " who are to be ineligible " be expunged, 13. That in Bye-law 35 the words '' nominated three candi- 6L date~'~be expunged and the words ('three candidates" be inserted after the words "signatures." 14. That in Bye-law 37 the words " an equal number of " be expunged, and that after the next following word " nanies " the words " not exceeding in number those erased " be inserted.15. That Bye-law 38 be expunged and the following Bye- law substituted therefor :--" Each Member desirous " of voting shall deliver or transmit his Voting List in '' a sealed envelope addressed to the Secretary at the " office of the Institute, so that it be received not "later than the evening of the day before the day '(of election. The Voting List of any Member whose r' subscription or other sum payable by him under the ('Bye-Laws of the Institute, shall be unpaid upon " the day of election, shall be disallowed by the 6' Scrutineers." 5 16. That at the end of Bye-law 39 the words ''or at any " adjournment thereof" be added. 17.That in Bye-law 42 the word '' ten " be expunged and the word " seven " be substituted therefor ; and after the word " days the words :' or in the case of erner- " gency twenty-four hours 'I be inserted. 18. That in Bye-law 47 after the word '' may" the words '' subject to any regulations imposed by the Council '' as above mentioned '' be inserted. 19. That in Bye-law 48 after the words ''such Member" the words " or Members " be inserted, and after the next following words " of Council or " the words '' persons '' or " be inserted. 20. That in Bye-law 55 : (I) After the word " hands " the words '(at a '' Meeting specially convened for that piirpose." be inserted. (2) 'The words " and two-thirds negative votes shall " be required to exclude " be expunged, and the words '' and not less than two-thirds of the " Members present and voting at such meeting " must give an affirmative vote substitutedI' therefor.21. That in Bye-law 71 the words '(upon payment of the ('prescribed entrance fees " be expunged. 22. That in Byelaw 79 the word '(other " be expunged. G 23. That in Bye-law 86 after the word “any” the word “ other ” be expunged. 24. That in Bye-law 92 after the word “Auditors” the word ‘‘ Registrar ” be inserted. 25. That in Bye-law 93 after the words ‘‘no Member of the ‘‘Council, Auditor,” the word “Registrar” be inserted. 26. That the draft Bye-Laws as amended by this Meeting be approved and adopted, and that such alterations in the numbers of the said draft Bye-Laws as may be necessary be niade by the Solicitors.
