AbstractThe shift of the absorption band of diethyl ether at 8.9 μ upon mixing with chloroform and several related compounds was measured.The measured shifts can, like several frequency changes mentioned in the literature, be calculated with a plausible distribution of charge of the molecules concerned.From the measurements conclusions are drawn about the charge of the hydrogen atom in the compounds investigated
