The responsibilities of quality assurance departments have increased in many organizations, resulting in increased information requirements. Now more quality assurance data must be collected, managed, analysed and reported. Consequently, some Arms are developing quality assurance management information systems. This paper describes the development of such a system at Motorola Inc. The reasons for developing this system are described as well as the design objectives, the system that was developed and the resulting benefits. Plans for enhancements to the system are also given.
