摘要:

When taking your temperature, the physics of the thermometer is not high in your thoughts. But on a happier day it gets intriguing, and one question leads to another. Why is it the only thermometer that has to be shaken down before use? Why is it so hard to see the top end of the mercury column and get a reading?
