In reviewing hundreds of process improvement projects, the author has found that virtually all fall into at least one of six categories. By looking for places where one or more of these characteristics occur in existing (or proposed) processes, one can identify opportunities for projects that reduce energy consumption, decrease waste, improve yields, and in other ways cut costs.
