Previous investigations have shown that AA is the factor regulating the morphological effects of symbiosis between leguminous plants andRhizobium.All parts of the Leguminosae normally harbour bacteria, but only the roots, which are exceedlingly poor in AA, present characteristic growth reactions through formation of nodules, whereas the epigeal organs, although invaded by bacteria but sufficiently rich in AA, do not present any morphological reaction.
