Summary:Subtalar arthrodesis is a widely accepted treatment for deformity and arthritis of the subtalar joint. The most common methods of arthrodesis involve preparation of cancellous joint surfaces, bone grafting, and internal fixation. We describe in detail our preferred technique. Two specific indications for subtalar arthrodesis— calcaneal malunion and severe planovalgus associated with posterior tibial tendon dysfunction—are also discussed.
