Peripheral vein nutritional support (PVN) is a safe and economic modality to provide a balanced nutritional intake. The safety and convenience of peripheral vein administration eliminates central vein-related metabolic complications and sepsis. Hospitalized patients facing extended diagnostic workups and/or uncomplicated surgery are ideal candidates for PVN, which should be considered an integral part of their medical and nursing care. It can be used on patients admitted in the local community hospitals as well as the metropolitan medical centers. This presentation will review indications, current regimens and I.V. devices available for administration.
