摘要:
AbstractThe gas industry faces the problem of a highly seasonal demand for its product. This paper describes an O.R. study into ways of solving this problem. The constraints under which a Gas Board operates are outlined and it is shown that an important factor in containing the peak demand is the availability of large industrial contracts which can be switched to other fuels for short periods, at a few hours' notice. The problem of scheduling these interruptions is discussed and the paper considers the value to the Board of different types and combinations of these interruptible contracts. The results of the study have been used by both the engineering and commercial departments in the Board, and this study has made possible an integrated approach to a complex problem.
