The constancy of the average«bleeding-time»in the same individual (as in opposition to the diversity of two single bleeding-times) led to a method of studying arrest of hæmorrhage. This permitted to discriminate efficient and inefficient hæmostatics. It proved also to be useful in combining coagulant hæmostatics and those which physiologically increase vaso-constriction produced by wounding. Combined use of both kinds of hæmostatics is to be especially applied to abnormal bleeders whose profuse hæmorrhage depends upon alterations of blood and blood-vessels.
