ABSTRACT:This article focusses on word “therefore” (and its near synonyms) and the role that it plays in syllogistic and nonsyllogistic reasoning, particularly in the phrase “… therefore I must kill myself.” It is shown that the traditional Aristotelian role of the syllogistic conjunction (‘therefore”) is greater than an automatic connection or transformation between the premises and the conclusion, and is, in fact, a bridge with a rather wide range of psychological and temporal dimensions.
