AbstractA method is proposed for calculating the steady‐state distribution of mixtures of solid particles and of the axial bed porosity in liquid fluidized beds. The extent of bed stratification is assumed to be determined by the differences among the settling velocities of the fluidized particles and the random motion of these particles that is a result of fluidization.
